Jennifer Kourembis

March 6, 1923 - April 7, 2022

Jennifer Kourembis, 99, of Laguna Woods, CA died peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Athanasios and Eleni (Vroustouris) Kourembis. She graduated from Lowell High School and Lowell Commercial College. She embarked on her career in Lowell and soon accepted a position at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. Her expemplary work led to her accepting a position with the State Department in Washington, D.C. after which she completed a 25-year career with the CIA. Although she traveled extensively in her role with the CIA, her major assignments were based in Washington, D.C. and Athens, Greece. She was proud to have served her country and remained a patriot to the end of her life. After retiring from the CIA, she and her sister Mary lived in Arlington, Virginia before relocating to Laguna Woods, CA in 1986. She was an active member of St. Sophia Cathedral in Washington, D.C. and later St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine, CA where she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Ambassadors Senior Group. She was predeceased by her sisters, Angela Kolofolias and Mary Kourembis, and a brother George Kourembis. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, John Kolofolias, Elaine Stephanides, and Anastasia Pappas and Arthur Kourembis; grand niece and nephew, Mary (Greg) Brown), and Dr. Steven (Michele) Stephanides, Angela Pappas and Ari Pappas, and Gregory (Katie) Kourembis; great grandnieces Kendall Brown, Gabrielle Brown, and Violet Kourembis, and great grandnephews, George Connor Brown and Roman Kourembis. To her family she was a loving sister and aunt, leaving many beautiful memories and a void that will not be filled. Jennifer had a passion for the arts and enjoyed painting, doing crafts and sewing. She loved to travel, was an avid reader, and loved tending to her plants. Her energy was infectious. She was loved, respected, and will be greatly missed. Trisagion service and visitation will be at McCormick Mortuary Chapel, Laguna Hills, CA on Monday, April 18 at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Church in Irvine, CA on Tuesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St, Paul's Ladies Philoptochos Society, 4949 Alton Parkway, Irvine, CA 92604.
