Adel Jane (Sykora) Ulrich born June 19, 1927 Waco, TX., passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 23, 2020 in her son's Lake Forest, CA., home. Adel was lovingly known as "GG" to her family. Born to Mary and John Sykora, she had four siblings Georgia, Albert, Ernest and Joe Stanley (all passed). Adel and her siblings had a tragic upbringing with their Mother passing during childbirth when Adel was only 5 years old. Adel moved to California in the late 1940's with the Kramer family, which included her close friends (who were like sisters to her) Joan and Dottie. She continued her education in California and worked as a waitress in Pasadena. She had a short marriage which produced one child. She was hired at the National Lines Bureau in San Pedro after completing a secretarial course. She worked there for about 8 years and then married the owner of the company, Donald G. Ulrich in 1959.Adel then became a homemaker residing in Rolling Hills, CA., having Donna in 1960 and Dean in 1962.
Adel and family then moved to Torrance in 1974 after her husband, Don suffered a debilitating stroke. Adel cared for her husband until his passing in 1996. Adel suffered the great loss of her daughter, Donna in 1983. She is survived by her son, Dean D. Ulrich, Daughter-in-law Karen, son Clifford, 7 Grand-children and 11 Great grand-children.
Adel always thought of others, often sharing her extensive knowledge of vitamins and their benefits with others. She was a person who continued to learn all the way up to the end of her life. She was inquisitive and interested in many different subjects. Adel was a great person to talk with, she had great insight and was very spiritual. Her mind was sharp, and it baffled her when her strong body started failing. She was happy to have loved ones visit before her passing. Adel was unique, one of a kind.
Adel was able to do some traveling throughout her life she enjoyed her trips to Hawaii, Texas, Niagara Falls, Italy, Japan, Singapore, cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico. She especially enjoyed seeing her place of heritage Czechoslovakia, where she visited her Grandfather's house.
Adel lived in the Palm Springs area for many years and enjoyed her home there. It was a beautiful place that holds many great memories to family who spent time with her there.
Adel loved the time spent with friends and family. Her 90th birthday party was a great celebration where we were able to express our love for her. She enjoyed that day very much and she looked beautiful! She was a very generous woman. She would make sure to set up family time with each of us, inviting us to lunch or dinner with her. This last year was very difficult for her and it took its toll. We were able to celebrate her 93rd birthday but it was a much different situation. But thankfully we believe she knew how much we loved and appreciated her always.
