Adonis Ocera Galang, born August 15, 1958; Tondo, Manila, Philippines, passed peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Kaiser Hospital, Irvine, CA.He was lovingly known as Doni to his wife, Dad to his children, Lolo or Lolopot to his grandkids, and Kalog or Kelly to his family.Born to Alfredo (passed) and Novina Galang, he has four siblings:Novette Flores, Alfredo Galang (passed), Apollo Galang, and Nerissa Galang.He attended Union Elementary School-Philippine Christian University and Trinity College.
Doni moved to California in June 1976 with his parents and siblings, where he met the love of his life Alicia "Laddie" Perez-Galang.After a year and a half of courtship, Doni and Laddie were married in the spring of 1979 and had three children:Don, Ian, and Tony.Don passed in 2009, but is survived by his wife, Joji and his children: Lauren, Lil D, Antonio, and Jaden.
Doni's greatest pleasure in life was the years with Laddie and his children, and most of all spending time and talking about his grandchildren.Doni's pride and joy was being Lolo aka Lolopot.
Doni was a devout Methodist and lover of music.He is most known for his long hair, jokes, and owning and playing guitar.He played guitar during Sunday Worship Services at Laguna Country UMC.He held a number of careers, including working for Kaiser Permanente Medical Group and Pacific Bell.When he could, he would go to sporting events and concerts.His favorite teams were the Raiders and Golden State Warriors.He loved spending time with his Boston Terrier, Gus.
Doni and Laddie were co-founders of a Filipino Christian chorale from former Melrose UMC in Oakland, California, whose main purpose was to express the gifts the Filipino culture brings to society and to the Church and to share their songs and ministry to all.Their repertoire included classic religious songs, Broadway hits, and original Pilipino music (OPM).They sang at two UMC General Conferences in 2004 and 2008, UMW Western Jurisdiction Quadrennial Event in 2008, and UMC Western Jurisdictional Conference in 2012.They traveled all over the United States, Myanmar, and the Philippines.The chorale was featured in the March-April 2009 "New World Outlook" – the official magazine of The United Methodist Church.
Doni was part of a 10-member delegation from the Philippines Solidarity Task Force of the California-Nevada Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church that visited Manila and surrounding areas in Luzon on a pastoral visit and solidarity mission, August 19-31, 2011.Hosted by the National Council of Churches, Philippines, the delegation team visited farming, fishing, and urban poor communities, and met with political prisoners and human rights violations survivors and families.
For many years, Doni loved going to Disneyland with his wife, children and grandchildren, to which his children now share that same passion.Doni loved the time spent with friends and family.He was a very generous man.He would give you his last penny if you asked, and unlimited time which is priceless.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, December 12, 2020, 1:00 p.m., at McCormick & Sons Mortuaries, 25000 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA, followed by a small reception.Doni will be cremated and brought home with Laddie to rest with his son, Don.
