Obituary

Alan "Al" Burrows had an extraordinary life and was a truly remarkable person. He was a charismatic entrepreneur, adventurer, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He passed into Heaven on October 18, 2023, at the age of 88. He was surrounded by his family, who will honor his memory by following in his footsteps living life to the fullest.

Al was born January 23, 1935 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to John Burrows and Mary Hannah Pickering. His father passed away when he was 10 and he began work to help support his family by working for a butcher delivering meat, selling papers and collecting coathangers, making just $6 per week. At the age of 16, he joined the Canadian Navy as an aviator and served during the Korean War. As a member of the VX-10 Air Squadron, he flew missions off of the HMCS Magnificent and HMS Triumph aircraft carriers. Following the war, he attended the University of Alberta Canada earning a degree in accounting and began work in the Canadian oil fields in and around Calgary.

Blessed with a natural charisma and stage presence, Al found his way into show business, hosting two television shows in Canada: Teen and Twenty Party and Sock Hop . He also managed music groups and was discovered by Liberty Records who moved him to Southern California to lead Artist and Repertoire for Liberty. Al spent several years in the entertainment business, producing multiple records and writing screenplays.

Al had a gift for sales, and he next made his way to the automobile business, where he excelled and became the #1 Mercedes Benz salesman in the world multiple times, earning trips to Germany and many places throughout Europe. As a serial entrepreneur and adventure seeker, he also raced Formula Ford and Formula 5000 cars (participating in the first Long Beach Grand Prix), performed as a stunt driver, modeled (he was a Winston Cigarette billboard man), and owned several businesses including opening the first sunglass store on Hollywood Blvd. He owned and operated two gentlemen's clubs, manufactured skateboards and launched the Great American RV Auction.

Following his successful career in sales, he developed a business renting motorhomes to the entertainment industry, working with stars like Guns n' Roses, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hugh Hefner, George Foreman and many many more. In retirement, Al volunteered his time working for Priceless Pet Rescue in Chino Hills which is an organization that meant a great deal to him.

In addition to undoubtedly being the Most Fascinating Man in the World , Al leaves behind a legacy of unwavering optimism, infectious curiosity, and a belief that you can do anything if you believe in yourself. Most importantly, he was dedicated to and had unconditional love for his family.

Al brought so much joy to everything he did and to everyone he touched. His presence was felt when he walked into any room and he could befriend anyone. Those who knew him were better because of the time they were fortunate enough to spend with him.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathleen Burrows, children Todd Burrows (Lianir), Roger DeWames, Michael Burrows and Michelle Peeples, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and two dogs. He was predeceased by his mother and father and brother Brian Burrows, and many, many dogs.
