Obituary

Alfred "Duke" Theurich Jr. was born on December 2, 1930, and passed away on July 11, 2016 at the age of 85 in Laguna Woods, California. Alfred is survived by his faithful and loving wife: Emily Ross Theurich; loving and devoted children: Jon Alan Theurich, and Diane Eugenia Rogers; loving and adoring grandchildren: Lindsay Rogers Geisler, Tyler Rogers, Matthew Haan Theurich, and Kammi Suzanne Boettcher. Alfred was predeceased by his faithful and loving son Stuart Scott Theurich.

Alfred was born in Glendale, California to his parents Ora Bell and Alfred Theurich Sr. Alfred was raised in a loving home and was well provided for in Pasadena, CA. In 1955 Alfred married his wife, Emily Jane Ross in Pasadena, California. Al and Emily then moved to San Luis Obispo, where he attended and graduated from Cal Poly SLO, then to San Diego, and settled in Tustin for thirty-three years, then retiring to Temecula, Murrieta and Laguna Hills, CA. Al was a resident of The Colony at California Oaks in Murrieta, where he moved with Emily in 2006. And most recently Al resided at The Wellington, an independent living community, in Laguna Hills.

Alfred had many lifelong passions including: singing, performing arts, photography, videography, automobile rallies, hiking, nature, science, mathematics, cooking, wine making, traveling, wood craft, gardening and many others. Alfred was a Korean War Veteran, and served a tour of duty in South Korea. Al was also a successful aerospace engineer, employed with Ford Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, and later Brunswick Defense. Alfred was a voracious reader and accomplished writer, having recently authored two books on the use of nuclear energy to mitigate the effects of man-made climate change.

Al was a treasured friend to many. He was a wonderful listener with an equally wonderful sense of humor. Al adored and treasured his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
