Amolak Singh Ghotra was born on March 21, 1933 and passed away on November 6th, 2015 at the age 82 in Laguna Woods, California. He is survived by his spouse Sarjit Ghotra, his five children, twelve grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Amolak was born in Punjab, India to his parents, Sharam Singh and Karam Kaur. He was the eldest of five children. In 1951 he married his wife Sarjit. He served in the Indian Army for 36 years and retired as Major. He survived Partition of United India and fought for the country in two wars. He was an overacheiver for whom average was unacceptable. He immigrated to California in 1988 with his family and worked at the Port of Long Beach for ten years. He retired in Lakewood and later relocated in 2006 with his wife to the Laguna Woods community.
Amolak enjoyed the large and loud family gatherings surrounded by good food and lots of laughter. He was the commanding patriarch always concerned about his family's education, success, and well-being. While facing his recent health challenges his biggest concern was the future wellbeing of his wife. He was a strong and serious pillar of the family but still could get up and dance and laugh at the Punjabi celebrations.
After the cremation Amolak's ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean and the holy Kiratpur Sahib River in Punjab, India. He will be resting with son Kuldip Ghotra.
