Witczak, Anastasia born April 4, 1925 in Lwow, Poland, passed away December 31, 2014 at the age of 89 in Aliso Viejo, California.
Anastasia was born to Stanislaw Wicher and Anna Skowron and lived in Lwow until the outbreak of World War II. She was an adolescent when she was transported to Germany and forced into labor camps, where she lived and worked until the war ended. She then lived in a displaced persons and resettlement camp near Heilbronn, West Germany where she met her husband, Henry Witczak. They had two children, John and Mary.
She emigrated to the United States in 1950 and lived in Michigan until her children were grown. Anastasia moved to Oregon in the late 1980s, and for a short time lived in Chicago. She returned to the Pacific Northwest until her final move to California in 2000.
She was very proud of her family and enjoyed their company. She held a steadfast and devout faith; she was very fond of Europe, Oregon and her Polish heritage. She also loved traveling and fixing up her home with French Provincial decor. Her long time companion, a female Chihuahua named Suzie, was a source of pleasure for her. Her travels ceased when her health began to decline. She had a feisty personality and maintained her quick wit until the end. Anastasia said that she wanted to "go home." She is home now.
She is survived by her son, John Witczak, and her daughter-in-law, Laura Witczak. By this union she was blessed with six grandchildren, Jonathan Witczak, Michael (Kristina) Witczak, David Witczak, Timothy (Amanda) Witczak, Daniel Witczak and Victoria Witczak plus one great grandchild, Audrey Witczak. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Timothy Church in Laguna Niguel and she will be laid to rest at El Toro Memorial Park.
Contributions in her memory may be made to CFRI (Cystic Fibrosis Research, Inc.).
