Angela Christakis, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Laguna Hills, California. Born on November 22, 1933, in Jerusalem, Palestine, Angela's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, devotion, and an unyielding dedication to family.
Angela's early years were shaped by her strong Middle Eastern heritage and Greek Orthodox faith, grounded in family unity, warm hospitality, and the rich tradition of sharing home-made Greek and Middle Eastern meals. In 1968, she embarked on a new chapter by immigrating to the United States, settling in Southern California alongside her loving husband, the late Panayotis "Beny" Christakis, and their three children Sam, John, and Tina. Angela kept the household together while working and supporting her husband’s gas station and restaurant businesses, and at one time worked the graveyard shift in a tomato manufacturing company.
Throughout her life, Angela stood as the steadfast matriarch of her family, whose kitchen was always filled with the aromas of lovingly prepared meals that brought everyone together. Known for her nurturing spirit, Angela found joy in cooking and baking for her loved ones, knitting, dancing, playing cards, engaging with friends at the senior center, and the occasional thrill of the slot machines at the casino. These simple pleasures were expressions of the genuine warmth and vibrant energy she carried into every moment.
Angela’s family remembers her as the most loving mother and grandmother, also affectionately known as “yiayia”— one who put her family first always, embracing each member with care and concern. She was the heart of every gathering, the life of every party, and always inspired laughter amongst her loved ones. Angela’s grandchildren fondly remember the playful back‑and‑forth teasing—usually about her accent—and how she never missed a beat in giving it right back. Her presence was a comfort, her strength a quiet anchor, and her devotion the thread that held us all together.
We carry countless treasured memories because of her, and each one is a testament to the way she lived: with generosity, humor, and a boundless love that shaped our family in the most beautiful ways.
She is lovingly survived by her children: Sam Christakis and his wife Patty; John Christakis and his wife Feloria; and Tina Christakis Alam and her husband George. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren Elena, Ali, Samantha, Judith Ann, Juliana, Jenna, and Jacqueline Christakis, along with Hanna and his wife Angela, Angelia, and Alexander Alam. Angela also delighted in the presence of her great-grandchildren Joselyn, Johny, and Josephina Christakis, whose lives she deeply touched.
Angela was also sister to the late Mary Awadalla, Yani Mestakides, and Philio Mestakides, and loving aunt to nephews and nieces including the late Joe Awadalla, Costa Awadalla, Randa Mudawar, Sophie Abboud, Theo, Costa, George, and Steve Mestakides among many beloved great nieces and nephews. The bonds she nurtured will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her.
Angela's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and tradition. In honoring her memory, we remember a woman whose heart was as vast as her kitchen, whose hands were ever busy with care, and whose spirit will forever grace the lives she so tenderly embraced. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know her. Her family is comforted with the knowledge that she is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May God rest her soul.
