Obituary

Ann Rheinstrom Cullen, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to many passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023 with her family at her side.

She was born in Evanston, Illinois on September 2, 1943 to Mary and Jack Rheinstrom and grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio and Wilmette, Illinois before moving with her parents and brother Gordon to New York City in the mid-60's.

Together with her husband Bill and their two adult daughters, Nina Berry, Debbie Chaky, husband Steve, and their families, she shared a remarkable journey through a life filled with love, laughter, parties, travel, community service and above all, fun! Her gentle spirit, nurturing presence, positive energy, wide smile, organization skills, and unwavering devotion and loyalty will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

Ann and Bill's story began in New York City where they first met on a train. They were married in 1966 and settled in Brooklyn Heights and later Chappaqua, NY. In late 1973, a corporate transfer enabled the family to embark on a new life together in Rancho Palos Verdes.

With the help of Brooklyn Heights friends Jim and Judy Holly who had also recently moved to RPV with their daughter Meredith, Ann immediately jumped into active roles in the Junior Women's Club followed by the Peninsula Committee Childrens Hospital not long after. In addition to serving PCCH as Chair of the Horseshow, Co-chair of the Annual Golf Tournament and PCCH President, Ann also was active in National Charity League as Co-chair for two Medallion Lunches, among other roles. Somehow, she managed to fit in volunteering at Torrance Memorial Hospital and supporting the Music Center as a docent.

Truly a people-person, Ann loved her work as an executive assistant in several small companies and particularly the meet-and-greet and tour guide roles with high-end cruise lines and Good Times Travel. Additionally, Ann managed to be active in playing and organizing golf tournaments at Rolling Hills Country Club, Monterey CC in Palm Desert and elsewhere along with serving on the RHCC Membership and House Committees.

But more than anything, Ann cherished her role as a mother to Nina and Debbie, a loving sister to USN Captain Gordon Rheinstrom (Ret.), a 2nd Mom to many others, Nana to Matthew, Paige and Spencer Berry and Cullen Chaky who all brought immeasurable joy to her life and who we know will carry her spirit forward.

Although we mourn Ann's loss, the family joins her many friends to remember and celebrate her beautiful life, accomplishments and the positive impact she had on others.
