Anne Elizabeth Brinkley, whose career as a high school English teacher and community leader was legendary, died on February 10 at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California.She was 84.The cause was heart failure.

Anne Brinkley was born on July 26, 1932 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey (as Anne Govaltez). Her great love was Shakespeare and the British Romantic poets. She was devastated at an early age when her older brother, John Govaletz, was killed by a sniper in Guam during the Second World War.Anne attended Clarion State Teachers College in Clarion, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1954 as an English literature and drama major. While there she met Edward A. Brinkley.They were married on June 11, 1955

Anne Brinkley taught high school English in Clarion while her new husband, a Korean War veteran, worked at Owens-Illinois as a personnel manager.Edward and Anne had their first child Leslie in 1958. The Brinkley's then relocated to Valencia, Venezuela with his company. They moved to Atlanta, Georgia and had their second child Douglas in 1960. The Brinkley's eventually moved to Perrysburg, Ohio in 1968. She was passionate about education and traveling with her family. For over a decade she taught at Perrysburg High School specializing in British Literature and English. She was proud to be chosen as Teacher of the Year and Head of the English Department.

After her children graduated from college, Anne retired from teaching when she and her husband moved to Laguna Niguel, California in 1986. She loved the weather and living near the ocean. She reveled in her frequent trips to Las Vegas.

Anne Brinkley, a beloved grandmother of five, believed that getting a great education was the sine qua non for advancement in America.She was also a longtime supporter of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (all donations should go to that nonprofit).Her memorial service will be Saturday Feb 18 at 10:00 am at McCormick and Son in Laguna Hills, California.She is survived by her husband Edward Brinkley, her partner of 62 years, and her daughter, Leslie Brinkey Graumlich, her son Douglas Brinkley, her grandchildren Alexa Graumlich, Brielle Graumlich, Benton Brinkley, Johnathan Brinkley, Cassady Brinkley, her sister Mary Anne Crews and her son in law Jeff Graumlich and daughter in law Anne Brinkley.
