IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Armando Henry
Sotello
January 23, 1938 – May 5, 2023
Armando Henry Sotello Junior, born January 23, 1938, Las Angeles CA at Boyle Heights, passed from health problems on Friday, May 5, 2023, in his San Juan Capistrano home. Born to Armando Sotelo Sr. and Guadalupe Cardona, he has eight siblings Licha (passed), Emma (passed), Martha (passed), Tony, Bobby, Susanna, Cindy, and Ginny. Married May 9, 1964, to Martha Diana Molina; They were high school rivals, she went to Garfield High and Armando went to Roosevelt High School. They would have celebrated 59 years this past week.
Armando's real name is actually Armando Sotello Jr. His father, Armando Sotelo Sr., spells his name with one L, and his mother, Lupe, changed his name to spell with 2 Ls because, at a young age, Armando Jr. was part of the gang growing up in East LA. Fortunately, his mother, Lupe, moved him out of the hood so he could live an everyday life and not live on the streets. We are truly blessed because our lives would be utterly different if his mother, Lupe, didn't pull him from the gang. Armando wanted the same for his family, to live a safe and happy lifestyle.
Armando started in the food and beverage industry, bagging groceries for Food Giant. Worked as a Route Salesman for Oroweat Bakery Company and was later promoted to Management for ten years. He left Oroweat to work for Mother's Cookies as a Route Salesman and retired at 62. It was the saddest day for our entire family because we couldn't get FREE cookies anymore. Lindsey, the youngest Grand-Niece of six siblings, always got a bag of Circle Animals Cookies from her Uncle Mando, and he told her never to share with any of her siblings.
Some of the things Armando enjoyed included when Deborah and her soul sister Denise Simonian were Riflettes at Los Altos High School 1984-1986, Armando and his wife Martha watched them, and the band perform all the Friday night football games and Saturday band tournaments. They were both proud when the band and color guard performed at the 1984 Summer Olympics and Rose Parade. They also enjoyed watching Deborah and her friend Shelley Aguilar at the time, perform at Dodger Stadium for the opening ceremony when Pope John Paul II came to Los Angeles in 1987. Armando enjoyed watching Steven play PeeWee football and baseball when he was younger and later watched Steven grow to play Varsity Football as a Quarterback for Los Altos HS. Additionally, Armando enjoyed attending all the USC football games with Deborah and loved spending time with Steven and his wife, Joey watching his grandchildren, Alyssa, Ayden and Alex play sports and perform in plays.
In 1998 Armando started working at San Juan Hills Golf Course as a Marshall; Manager at the Range, Starter, and Pro Shop for 21 years. He loved being in the Men's Club, playing in monthly tournaments, especially his favorite, Member-Member & Oktoberfest. Armando loved all the guys, like his sons, at the club. One year he won the President Cup and made a Hole in One, playing golf with his son Steven and another time in the tournament.
Armando's most outstanding achievements were being there for both of his grandchildren's birth and becoming a great-grandfather this coming July. Armando was proud when Deborah got accepted into the Master's program at USC in 2017 and made himself known as a Trojan DAD to all his friends.
