BONDI, Barbara Hegan, born August 25th, 1939 passed away August 1st, 2016 at the age of 76. She died of a sudden heart attack while recovering from another heart attack just days before. Barbara goes to join her beloved husband, Frank Louis Bondi Jr., brother, William M. Hegan, and son, Frank Louis Bondi III, who passed 15 years ago. She is survived by her loving son, Mark, and four blessed grandchildren, Conor, Taylor, Keira, and Siena.

Barbara was born in Louisville, KY, the second of two children of William and Helen Hegan. Growing up Barbara attended St. Scholastica Academy in Chicago, where she met many of her lifelong friends. After graduation Barbara then attended Mundelein College where she earned her Bachelor's degree.

She married Frank Louis Bondi Jr. on November 4th, 1961, and the happy couple began their life together in Chicago, moved to Park Ridge and Naperville, IL, and then finally settled in Irvine, CA in 1976, where they raised their two sons. Barbara was a homemaker while raising her two sons, and so much more. She obtained her Master's degree as well as her teaching credential and worked part-time for many years and then full-time as a middle school teacher prior to her retirement from teaching. She then helped her husband launch their own office furniture business in 1989, and the couple owned this successful business until they sold it in 2007 and retired.

Barbara possessed a keen intellect, was an avid reader, enjoyed religious scholarship, and along with her husband shared a passion for travel and for horse racing in their spare time. Later in their lives, Barbara and Frank enjoyed taking their sons and grandchildren on a summer trip each year, and some of the family's fondest memories of Barbara and Frank remain etched in those wonderful family trips.

Barbara was a formidable personality; she could be at times feisty yet was also among the kindest and empathic of people. She was a devoted wife, a loyal friend, and as honest and loving a mother a grateful son could ever hope for. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her; may she rest in peace.

Barbara's funeral mass will be held August 5th, 2016 at St. Thomas More Church in Irvine, CA, and she will be interred alongside her husband and son at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange, CA, immediately following the mass.
