Obituary
Barbara Katherine (Griffith) Parsons, dear mother, grandmother, wife, and friend went to be with her heavenly Father at the age of 73. Barbara is embraced in heaven by her mother and best friend Catherine (Katie), and by her father John. Barbara had many nicknames including Griff, Babs, Barb, and her most recent favorite Grandma Barbie.
Born in New York City, Barbara was the only child of John and Catherine Griffith. After graduating high school, Griff worked for American Airlines as a stewardess. She loved this occupation as it offered a chance to travel the world and suited her adventurous spirit. Barbara thought of California as a place of new opportunity with American Airlines, and she and her mother moved to Los Angeles in the mid-1960s. She met Gary on a blind date at the Yellow Submarine and they married in 1969. They were married for 45 years. They started a family in Torrance, CA. In 1974, Barbara, Gary, and their two toddler sons moved into the new development of Mission Viejo, CA, a place she would always call home. As a homemaker looking after her three children, Barbara later worked as an assistant in a medical office and started her own home-care company.
Barbara's childhood apartments in Manhattan and later New Rochelle, NY always had a "no pets" rule. When she became a mother, pets were always allowed, and many became members of the Parsons family. Barbara adopted numerous treasured dogs through the years, and adored her current golden retriever, Maggie. On any given day, Barbara could be found walking her dog along the Oso Creek trail, socializing more than exercising, and always on the lookout for old and new friends.
Barbara is survived by her husband Gary, her three children, Brad, Greg, and Kate, and five grandchildren, whom she cherished.
Services will be held Friday, March 6th at Church of the Master in Mission Viejo at 1:30p.m.
A Celebration of her Life will follow at the Norman P. Murray Center in Mission Viejo from 3:00p.m. - 5:00p.m.
