Barbara Janet Stephens, born January 1, 1937, Providence RI, passed away quickly and peacefully with son Michael Stephens, daughter-in-law Veronica Stephens, and friends by her bedside at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills, CA on Friday, August 16, 2024.  She was 87 years old.  Known to her friends as 'Babs,' she lived and died on her own terms.  Barbara's passion was being a loving 'Mimi' to her two grandchildren, Zachary Stephens, Brooklyn, NY, and Kyle Raymond, Bourne, MA.

Barbara grew up in East Greenwich, RI.  Graduated HS in 1956 and married Joseph Frederick Stephens of Seattle, WA in July 1957.  Sadly, she lost her husband to cancer on September 24, 1959, at U.S. Naval Hospital, Bethesda, MD.  After her husband's passing, Barbara returned with Michael to her hometown of East Greenwich, RI to be close to her family and friends.  In 1970, Barbara moved to Sandwich, MA (Cape Cod) and later moved to Laguna Niguel, CA in 2000 to be with her son Michael to help raise her grandson, Zachary.  In 2006, Barbara retired to Laguna Woods, CA where she spent the rest of her time enjoying a wonderful circle of friends, volunteered at St. Mary's and All Angels School and became a member of Saddleback Church.

The eldest daughter born to Lionel & Mildred Clarke (deceased) of East Greenwich RI, Barbara has four sisters, Marjorie Alberigo, Warwick, RI, Linda Horton, Charlestown, RI, Milly Clarke (deceased) and Cindy Hannah, Hopkinton, RI.  She is survived by her children Michael Stephens, Michelle Raymond & their families.

Barbara's final wish was to be reunited with her husband, Joseph Stephens.  She will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
