There was never a doubt of where Bette stood, for she always remained true to herself, her vibrant personality making her unforgettable in ways both big and small. Friends and family recall her ready laughter and the joy she found in everyday pleasures, especially the companionship of her beloved cats, who brought her immeasurable comfort and happiness. They were, without question, an integral part of her daily life and an enduring wellspring of joy.

Bette’s journey through life saw her dedicate more than 35 years to the retail grocery industry, much of her career spent with Lucky Stores and later Albertsons. Her commitment and steady presence became hallmarks of her work. She touched the lives of colleagues, customers, and those who would later become lifelong friends through her generosity and steadfastness. After years of diligent service, Bette retired, embracing well-earned rest and, above all, moments spent with her family and her adored feline companions.

Yet the richest treasures of Bette’s life lay in her home and the love she lavished upon her family. It was around the table that her magic truly came to life. Her Thanksgiving dinners were legendary, each dish prepared with her hands and an abundance of heart; her mashed potatoes, salads, and tacos becoming instant family classics. These were not mere meals, but the gatherings where memories were woven, laughter rang out, and stories took root. Through her cooking, Bette drew her loved ones close and was a quiet reminder of the power of simple rituals to bind generations.

Bette’s devotion continues through those she leaves behind: her sons, James Burris and Mike Burris; her daughter, Kam Trejo-Maheshwari; and her grandchildren, Corey Marcel Franklin, Jimmy Conger Burris, Cristian Andrew Giovanni Trejo, Katie Marie Franklin, Josephine Livia Denevi-Burris, Gino Joseph Denevi-Burris, and Sebastian Aditya Maheshwari. Each of them carries forward pieces of her spirit, love, and verve—an inheritance far richer than anything tangible.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Lynn Burris; her sisters, Kay Berry and Brenda Nelson, as well as her beloved kitties - Fat Cat, Sally, Ninga, Boo Boo Kitty, Philly, Wolfie, Peachy, Lucky, and many more!

As we grieve her passing, we are also compelled to celebrate a life lived fully and authentically. Bette Jean Keelan’s essence will endure in the laughter of her family, the comfort of a beloved pet, and in the shared remembrance of a smile, a joke, a perfectly cooked meal. She is gone from our sight, but not from our hearts.

Funeral services honoring Bette’s life will be held on August 19, 2026, at McCormick & Son Mortuaries, 25002 Moulton Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception at noon at the same location. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at El Toro Memorial Park, 25751 Trabuco Road, Lake Forest, CA.
