Betty M. Lombard joined her husband in Heaven, May 2, 2019.At 97 years old, she died from a massive brain hemorrhage at Saddleback Memorial Hospital in Laguna Hills.She has resided in Laguna Woods Village since 1989.She was born to Viola Vivian and Van Tres McCormick, Jan. 20, 1922, in Los Angeles, CA.Her parents divorced soon afterwards, so she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Grace and Magnus Oksen, in Los Angeles.They emphasized her academics in education and she graduated in 1939 from Washington High School, Los Angeles.She also gained a deep and abiding faith in the Lord from grandparents while attending Wilshire Christian Church with them.After graduating, she went to work locally as a secretary.She met the love of her life, George F. Lombard, and they were married, Sept. 6, 1940.She gave birth to their first son before George was recalled to active duty.After WWII they moved to another home in L.A. and she gave birth to their daughter.Another move brought them to Burbank where she gave birth to 2 more sons.While raising their children in Burbank, Betty began working at Lockheed Aircraft Co. in 1952 and progressed to Lockheed Aircraft Corp. from where she retired in 1987.Beginning in the '70's she and George traveled throughout the U.S. and took 2 cruises before his health deteriorated.She nursed her husband for the next 15 years between hospital stays which extended his life until he passed away in 1994.Betty stayed active in the First Christian Church wherever she lived until she passed on.She is survived by her son Lawrence (w/Elizabeth), daughter Trudie Hentze (w/Jon), son Dennis (w/Andrea), son Greg (w/Kim); grandchildren George E., Christina, Christi, Melanie, Tiffany, Zoe'; plus 11
Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-Great- grandchild.Her Memorial Service will be held, May 19, 2019 at the McCormick Mortuary Chapel, 25002 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Woods 92637 at 1:00 PM.Donations to the George and Betty Lombard Endowed Scholarship Fund at Chapman College in lieu of flowers is greatly appreciated.
