Bonnie Changstrom was born on December 25, 1921 and entered eternal life on July 14, 2019.She was born in Mason City, Iowa to Albert and Alta Zack.She had a sister Rheon, who was 5 years older than her and proceeded her in death in 2012.
Bonnie was married 3 times:
Norman William Anderson: (Died in 1955): Craig Changstrom (Linda) and Lauri Brannon (Don)
Grant Leslie Changstrom: (Died in 1979): Beth Changstrom
Robert Simon: (Died in 1999) Lloyd Simon (Barb) and Elaine (Maurice) Wolff
She moved from the midwest in the mid 40's to California, and spent the last 70 years of her life in this great state, first in Pasadena, and then on to Laguna Beach for the last 40 years.
Bonnie graduated from the University of Iowa in December of 1942 as the only female in the graduating class with a degree in Chemistry.She had a brilliant career as a scientist initially working as the only female chemist in helping with the war effort in manufacturing TNT and Nitroglycerine at Dupont Chemical in Wisconsin.She later moved to California and went to work at H. I. Thompson where she was granted a patent developing a technology aimed as an insulation agent for high temperature applications and was used in the US space program.The technology was known as Refrasil.Refrasil to this day has a number of high temperature applications in industry. She moved to Pasadena and then went to work atJet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
She has 7 grandchildren, Craig/Linda (Kirsten, Brad and Kayli), Lauri/Don (Zack and Kyle) and Lloyd/Barb (Amy and Michael).And now she has 10 and soon to be 11 great grandchildren.She always had asparkle in her eye around her family.
Bonnie loved to travel and has visited all 6 continents.She also had a myriad of different passions with commitments to the Laguna Beach Presbyterian Church,Laguna Beach Art Museum, golf, bridge, water skiing and comfort knitters to name a few.
She will be missed by all!
