Obituary

Please join us in remembering Brad. Through this site, we invite you to share your thoughts and fond memories with our family…

Brad Thomas, beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle passed away peacefully on November 12th in his Lake Forest, CA home.  Brad is survived by his wife, Faith Joy (Mercado) Thomas and his sons, Matthew and Mason, his mom and step-dad, Caroline and Mel Wiggins, his father, Dennis Thomas, and his sister, Ashley (Thomas) Sprague.  Born in 1977 to parents, Dennis Thomas and Caroline Wiggins, Brad graduated from Irvine High School where he was a scholar athlete and a member of the varsity tennis team for 4 years.  He went on to attend UC Santa Barbara and graduated in 1999 with a BA degree in Business Economics with an emphasis in Accounting.  After graduation, Brad began working at the Irvine Corporate Office of Tuttle-Click Automotive Group (TCAG).  In 2006, he spent a couple years in Tucson, AZ to work at the TCAG Tucson office and served as internal auditor for the company until settling back again in Orange County in 2008.  Ever so loyal, Brad remained with TCAG during his entire twenty-two year career starting as staff Accountant and later supervising a team in the Internal Audit department.

During his last year in college, Brad met his wife, Joy, a UCI student at the time, and she has always remained the love of his life.  Some of their favorite memories include: taking cross-country trip to Yellowstone National park; driving up north visiting Santa Barbara, Big Sur, Napa, and through San Francisco and back; hosting a beautiful wedding in Tucson, AZ; swimming with stingrays in the Grand Cayman during their honeymoon; and after having children, taking their two boys to family trips to San Diego, Mammoth Lakes, Yosemite, and the beautiful Oregon Coast.  After getting married, Brad and Joy settled back in Irvine and started raising a family.  Their first-born, Matthew Melvin was born in 2012 while living in Irvine.  Later, the family moved to Lake Forest soon after their second child, Mason Link, was born and they have been there since.

If you knew Brad well, you knew how much he enjoyed satirical comedy, listening to rock music, and most of all, playing video games – something he was thrilled to bond with his boys over.  You would often hear Brad bragging on Matthew and Mason's gaming abilities, making him such a proud father.  Brad was perhaps best known for his quick-witted sarcasm and love of humor.  He was always game to make a joke and wasn't afraid if it would offend you or not, it was worth the risk to make you laugh and bring a smile to your face.  Those who knew Brad well got to know the quiet and gentle spirit that he didn't often show the rest of the world.  He also had a fierce love for their family dog, Bella, as if she was a third child.  Brad's greatest joy other than meeting the love of his life was being a dad to Matthew (now 10 years old) and Mason (now 8 years old).  He had a compassionate soul and often made sure to help any homeless man he came across, he also bought flowers from street vendors on the road, and sponsored families in need during the holidays.  He was a loving husband, a fun and funny dad, a great friend to many.  He was Uncle Brad to his sister Ashley's kids, Max and Charlie, and "Tito Brad" (Filipino term for uncle) to more than 20 nieces/nephews/grandnieces/grandnephews from his wife's side.  The family is forever grateful to have known Brad's beautiful soul here on earth, and may his soul forever rest in peace with God.

A "Funeral Mass" will be held on Tuesday, November 22 nd from 10-11am inside Santiago de Compostela Catholic Church in Lake Forest followed by "Celebration of Life & Memorial Service" at 11am at the church hall.  Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories.  Visitation and Rosary Vigil will be held the evening prior on Monday, November 21 st from 4-7pm at McCormick & Son Mortuaries in Laguna Hills.  Brad's final remains will be cremated and held to rest at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest on Tuesday, November 29 th from 11am-12pm.

In memory of Brad, his children (Matthew and Mason) will be wearing along with their funeral attire a shirt to commemorate their dad's love for video games and heavy metal rock bands.  Family and guests are welcome to wear the same.
