Obituary

Veteran, Paramedic, Firefighter, Ski Patroller

Brent Alan Bankson, 65, rode off to the big ranch in the sky on October 8, 2025.

Born on September 21, 1960, Brent dedicated his life in the service to others — from saving lives in the field to protecting the communities he called home. He proudly worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and Cardiac Tech Specialist, known for his calm presence and steady hands in the most critical moments - His big heart helping the hearts of others.

Brent served with honor in the Peacekeeping Forces in the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt. He contributed to regional stability and earned the respect of his fellow servicemen and women. Upon returning home, he continued his life-of-service as a Sheriff's Deputy in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where his courage, compassion and care touched countless lives in times of need.

When he wasn't in uniform, you could find him on the ski slopes as a highly-regarded team member of the Whitetail Resort Ski Patrol, Pennsylvania. Here, he would share his love of the mountains, fresh air and dedication to safety with all who graced the slopes alongside him.

Some of Brent's greatest joys were spent surrounded by family and friends at the Family Cabin in the Sequoia National Forrest; Walking the land, tending to the cabin, and sharing adventure stories and tall tales while dealing out another hand of cards. He also loved strolling the Dana Point Marina and sailing on the family boat, "Shady Lady".

Brent had a deep passion for the cowboy life, born from his early years on the family ranch and the cowboy tales of the family generations that preceded him.  He adorned his home with beautiful western paintings, old-time family photos, and authentic memorabilia from that bygone era.

Brent is survived by daughter Victoria, and granddaughter, Charlotte, his son, Sean, sister, Shanie Bankson (Billy Nahn) and dear Uncle Dennis Bankson. As well as by a lovely collection of friends who were fortunate to call him "BA".

He is preceded in death, by his mother and father, Patti and Commander Rodney Bankson, and his grandparents, Harold and Gwendolyn Bankson, and Clifford and Trudy Cross. And also, by his ever-present companion and lovable pooch, Samson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, local EMS charity, or Ski Patrol Association.

Brent will always be remembered for his unwavering integrity, boisterous humor, and a heart that truly beat for the lives of others.

"The last goodbyes the hardest one to say, and this is where the cowboy rides away."

-George Strait
