He passed after a brief and rapid struggle with pneumonia and complications of a long battle of multiple bouts of cancer.

Burt is survived by his loving wife and mother of his children, Nevonne "Sue" Nienhuis whom he was married to for 53 years. Burt is also survived by his 3 adult children, Kelly Nienhuis, Tim Nienhuis, and Joe Nienhuis and his wife Melissa; and by his 6 beautiful grandchildren, Brooke Halvorson and husband Dale (27), Lukas Nienhuis (26), Jake Nienhuis (18), Caleb Nienhuis (17), Summerlyn Nienhuis (9), and Kinsley Nienhuis (6), and also by his brother, Bill Nienhuis and wife Mari,  He is also survived by his mother's sister, Joann Theule. He will be missed dearly by his beloved family. Burt was preceded in death by his mother Betsy, his father Bern, his sister, Evie Talone (Mike) and many cousins.

Burt was born in Inglewood, CA. He met his wife in Bellflower, CA, in 1968. They were married on May 2, 1969 at the Christian Reformed Church in Colton, SD, where his wife Sue grew up.

After he earned his Bachelor's degree in business at Cal State Fullerton, he started his professional career as an Insurance Agent and Financial Advisor and remained in that industry for his working career. In the early 70's, he and his wife moved to Northern California, where he continued his profession in life insurance and financial work. He and Sue built a couple homes on 5 acres and lived the country life there, as they raised their 3 children. They moved back to Southern California in the late 80's, where he continued his work and eventually established a vehicle warranty business which he and his wife owned and operated together. Burt became ill with his first cancer in 2006. After many treatments he went into remission for a few years.  During that time, he and his wife Sue traveled a lot.

Burt gave back so much in his lifelong quest to share the gospel message of Jesus Christ to thousands of souls on earth. He was a devout and faithful man of God. He took the time as a prison Chaplin several times a month to go into the prisons and share the message of salvation..  He attended Harvest Christian Fellowship, where his son, Tim, is a worship leader. Burt was also a member of Kindred Community Church, where he started his prison ministry several years ago. He was involved in sharing the gospel with the gangs in Long Beach through the ministry of Fred Newkirk. Burt was also a board member of 'Let's Go Fishing' in the 70's which was a gospel ministry to fathers and young boys in Northern California. He was also a major part, for 30+ years, of several men's bible studies. And, last but not least, he facilitated the distribution of hundreds of thousands of 'Gospel of John' bibles all around the world. He loved the word of God.

Burt's hobby was vehicles.  He loved them all and knew the details of every vehicle he ever saw.  If anyone had a question about any vehicle he had the answer.
