Obituary

Calvin Marcus Viehweg passed away on Tuesday, May 7th, 2019 in his home in Laguna Niguel at age 61 due to complications related to recent open-heart surgery.
Calvin was born on August 17, 1957, in Salt Lake City, UT to Gerald Viehweg and Hazel Grace Taylor (both passed). He is the oldest of 3 children, with younger brothers Kent and Dean Viehweg. He grew up in the Holladay area of Salt Lake, where he attended school and graduated from Olympus High School in 1975 before serving a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in and around Melbourne, Australia. Following his mission, he attended Brigham Young University, where he met Carol Yvonne Garr. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 15, 1980, and later had 3 children, Jarom, Jessica, and Laurel. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in elementary education at BYU and a master's degree in education administration from California State University San Bernardino.
Following his graduation from BYU in 1986, he moved with his family to Apple Valley, California, to take a job teaching at Mariana Elementary School. He taught at Mariana Elementary for 32 years at various grade levels and touched the lives of hundreds of students along the way. Upon learning of his passing, one student said "he took me, a kid who didn't speak a word of English, and patiently walked me through the learning process. He will always hold a special place in my heart."
Calvin had a soft-spoken, quiet disposition with an undercurrent of sarcasm and his very own patented sense of humor, which he shared to the delight of his friends, family, and students. He loved playing with his grandchildren, enjoyed bicycle riding with his wife, learning about health and nutrition, and watching college and professional sports, and he was passionate about politics. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a faithful servant in various positions in the Church.
Most importantly, he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Carol Viehweg, his children and their spouses, Jarom and Kerri Viehweg, Jessica and Todd Perkins, and Laurel and Tyson Sorensen, 9 grandchildren, and his 2 brothers, as well as extended family and friends.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 12242 Navajo Rd, Apple Valley, CA92308.
