Obituary

Canio Ambrico, 101, died peacefully at his home on Jan 10, 2014 at Laguna Woods, CA.

He was born Feb 17, 1912 in Camden and grew up on S. 4th St which was then an Italian neighborhood. He graduated from Camden HS in 1931. During the Depression he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp and worked in the forests of Idaho. In 1934 he joined the Post Office as a Letter Carrier and worked in Camden until his retirement in 1973. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Branch 540. In 1938 he married Clara Szymanoski at St. Joseph Church in Camden. They lived in Audubon then moved to Woodlynne in 1943. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and an usher at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for many years. He was a sports fan, enjoying all sports, including being an Eagles season ticket holder. He especially liked fishing and crabbing at the Jersey Shore. He and Clara moved to Lauderhill, FL in 1977 because Clara's rheumatoid arthritis required a move to a warmer climate. There he was active in the homeowner association, worked part time at local racetracks, and continued his enjoyment of fishing. In their 80's in 2000, they moved to Orange County, CA near to their daughter and son-in-law.

Clara predeceased him on Jan 19, 2007. He is survived by son Robert (Rita) of East Lyme, CT, daughters Virginia (William) White of Laguna Hills, CA, and Susan, of Runnemede, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother Rocco, of Barrington, and sister Anne Navarro of Haddon Heights.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Laguna Woods, CA at 9AM Jan. 25, 2014. Burial will be at a later date at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Chew's Landing, NJ.
