IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carmelo A.
Gennaro
November 25, 1927 – February 29, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carmelo (Carl) Gennaro, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and adored great-grandfather. Carl left this world on February 29, 2024, at the age of 96, in Laguna Niguel, CA.
Born on November 25, 1927, Carl spent most of his life in Valley Stream, NY, where he lived with his late wife Eileen Gennaro. Together, they shared 71 years of unwavering love and commitment, leaving an enduring legacy of family and memories.
Carl is survived by his three sons, Carl, Robert, and Joseph Gennaro, along with their loving wives Marijati, Diane, and Nancy. He was a grandfather to eight grandchildren: Zachary, Jonathan, Brianna, Caroline, Robert Jr., Daniel, Michael, and Benjamin. Carl also leaves behind six great-grandchildren: Isabella, Stefani, Silas, Raylan, Titus, and Olivia.
The story of Carl and Eileen's love is one of fate and determination. The story goes that Carl flipped a coin with his friends to decide who would ask Eileen to dance. Swiftly catching the coin mid-air, he said, "I am going to marry that girl!" And so began a love story that spanned seven remarkable decades, filled with love, joy, and a small dose of craziness. Well, maybe a healthy dose.
Carl and Eileen tied the knot in 1952 and began to create their life. Carl was not only a dedicated provider but also a father who instilled the values of hard work and financial responsibility in his three sons. Never spending a dime on frivolous things, he also had a meticulous side - he never left a blade of grass uncut, a seed in a tomato, or an extra ice cube in his drink.
In addition to his family roles, it is important to note that Carl was a man of honor and service. Carl served in the Navy during World War II. His service to his country exemplified his strength, resilience, and sense of duty, leaving an indelible mark on the legacy of a man who gave not only to his loved ones but also to the nation he proudly served.
A passionate fisherman, Carl found solace and joy by the water, especially while indulging in his favorite pastime—fishing and eating crabs and clams. He was a man of simple pleasures, teaching his grandchildren the art of fishing. Just don't ever get caught putting his reels in the sand.
In his final years, Carl and Eileen relocated to Laguna Niguel, CA, taken care of by his first son and his family, where he continued to be surrounded by love, care, and Fox News. His legacy of resilience, wisdom, and a side of ornery will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to a one-of-a-kind man, let us remember Carl Gennaro for the love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the joy he brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to call him family. May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved Eileen, in a place where the seas are calm, fishing is good, crabs plentiful, and those sons of bitches never get elected
