She spent summers at camp in the Adirondack mountains of New York, swimming, diving and having fun. She also attended family reunions with her aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents in the Adirondack Mountains around Boonville, New York and showed her children photos of her grandfather who operated a snowshoe factory in the same mountains. She had several doting aunts.
Catherine(Kay) attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor , Michigan and majored in Bacteriology. She was a Gamma Phi sorority member there and met Eldon L. Foltz while he was attending medical school. They were married on October 17, 1943 at the Chapel of the Methodist Church in Ann Arbor, MI the day following her husband's graduation from medical school and his surgical internship at the University of Michigan. They then traveled together to Oceanside, CA and to San Francisco, CA for her husband's Naval training and he was commissioned as Lieutenant in the Naval Corps in the South Pacific theater for 30 months on active duty.
She returned to MI and while waiting for her husband, she spent time as a Bacteriologist testing chicken eggs for Malaria. As a married couple they lived in Dartmouth, VT and then Louisville, KY while her husband finished his neurosurgical residency and they raised their growing family. Kay accompanied her husband, Eldon to Seattle, WA in 1950 where he eventually became a professor of neurological surgery at the University of Washington Medical School until 1969.
Kay then moved to Laguna Beach, CA in 1969 to help raise their family while her husband accepted chairman/professorship of Neurosurgery at the University of California at Irvine Medical School.
Kay and Eldon traveled frequently together to Neurological Surgery Society meetings and others. They loved to dance together to the swing 1940's music. Kay was active in her church and had a strong commitment to her membership in the Neighborhood Congregational Church, Laguna Beach. She had many charities to which she was loyal to, The Indian School, The Nature Conservancy, etc.

A celebration of life service was held at the church with all of the family attending in October 2012. Her spreading of ashes will be in the Sierra Nevada as she wished at a later date.
One of her philosophies as stated by her to her daughters was to "Walk softly on this Earth".
She will be missed immensely- her quiet helpful, loving and kind ways, demanding of respect as a wife and our mother, a fun loving, humorous, wise and beautiful soul. May you dance softly in heaven with Eldon now, as sweethearts again. We will love you forever.
