Dr. Charles Pinkerton Obituary

Charles (Charlie) John Pinkerton passed away peacefully at home from heart failure surrounded by his family on July 16, 2021, in Laguna Woods, California at the age of 83.

Dr. Charles Pinkerton was born on October 8, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Dr. John, Jr. and Dorothy Pinkerton.

Charlie was reared and educated in Des Moines, Iowa graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1955. He attended Drake University where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. This dental student graduated from the University of Iowa in 1961 with a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity. In 1963 he received his master's in orthodontics.

In Fairfield, Iowa on September 11, 1960, he married Colleen Singley.
Following graduation, Charlie opened his orthodontic practice in Hialeah, Florida.He also worked in offices in Aventura and Coral Gables, Florida and retired after forty plus years.

He was the last surviving charter member (1964) of the Miami Lakes (FL) Lions Club where he served as President and in numerous other offices as well as the District, and Multiple District.He is a life member and a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

Charlie was also a member of the Masonic Capital Lodge #110, Des Moines, Iowa, Scottish Rite 32-degree Mason, Mahi Shriners, Miami, Florida, American Academy of Orthodontists, Past President of the Southern Society of Orthodontists, American Association and the Florida Association of Dentists, The University of Iowa Alumni Association, and the Sunrise Presbyterian Church.

Charlie was a huge football fan, rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Florida Gators and the Miami Dolphins.He enjoyed golf, fishing in the Keys, traveling-especially cruises, playing poker and blackjack in Las Vegas and RV-ing throughout the United States. As an owner of Pinkerton Stables, he enjoyed horse racing at Hialeah Racetrack in Hialeah, Florida.

He is survived by his wife Colleen of over 60 years, daughter Cynthia (Paul) Johnson, Laguna Woods, CA, son Craig (Karen) Pinkerton, Irvine CA, sister Dixie Fuller (Kirby) Olathe, KS, brother and sister-in-law John and Nancy Martin of Morris IL , grandchildren Phillip Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Emily Pinkerton, Brandon Pinkerton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Viewing at 2:00 pm and services at 3:00 pm at:
