Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather

Ed attended St. Andrews School in Delaware and graduated Valedictorian class of 1937 from St James School in Maryland. He graduated from California State Fullerton in 1976 with a B.A. degree in finance.

He achieved the rank of Commander with the U.S. Navy. Ed was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and served during WWI in the Asiatic Pacific; European, African and Middle East theaters. He received the Victory medal, the American Area medal, the American Defense medal with one star and the Philippines Liberation Medal. He was a member of the Orange County Pearl Harbor Survivors.

In 1994, Ed was recognized by the California State Senate Rules Committee and California Assembly for his leadership in the California Senior Legislature, representing Orange County. He served as Assembly Speaker in the CSL for three years and Chair of the State and Local Government Committee. He also served with the Orange County Senior Advisory Committee and was involved in AARP.

Ed was a businessman, culminating his career as a real estate analyst and appraiser. He and his wife Marj lived in Hinsdale Illinois before moving to Hillsborough, then Newport Beach California.

An avid volunteer in his senior years, he assisted at Ensign Elementary School, Hoag Hospital Auxiliary, and supported Women Helping Women. He attended St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and was active in the Stephen Ministry.

He is survived by his daughters Marcia Armstrong, Lynn Rauma and her husband Rick; his grandchildren Sarah, Jon, Senia and Adam, and his great grandchildren Hailey, Alden and Brennan.

Ed will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery, San Diego, CA. Donation in his memory may be made to Women Helping Women, 711 West Seventeenth Street, Suite A10, Costa Mesa, CA 92627.
