Obituary
Clyde Barr Fletcher passed away from prostate cancer on Nov 12, 2020 surrounded by family at home. He was 90 years old.
Barr was born Feb. 3, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clarence and Roma Fletcher. His family moved to Portland, Oregon where his brother Noel was born three years later. After graduating from high school, Barr studied Business Administration at University of Oregon, where he met
Lucy Ann Sprouse. Following his college graduation in 1954, he was inducted into the US Air Force and married Lucy. Lucy and Barr were stationed in Japan at Ashiya AFB where their first daughter, Leslie, was born in 1957. They moved back to their hometown of Portland where
daughter, Jenne, was born in 1958. Son, Thomas, was born in Salem, Oregon in 1960.
After working in traveling sales for a hobby and craft supply company, the family moved to Los Angeles, California where Barr studied Industrial Design at the Art Center School. In 1962, on the birth of daughter, Claire, he began his career as a Reliability Engineer at Douglas Aircraft. With a busy, growing family, the next three decades included several moves across Southern California, all the while Barr commuted to work in Long Beach. Lucy passed away from complications of Lupus in 1991.
Barr retired from McDonnell Douglas in 1995.
Later that year, he met Jean Springer. Barr and Jean married in January, 1996. They lived in Orange for a few years, before settling into the community of Laguna Woods. They shared many happy years spending time with their blended families, traveling, attending concerts and musicals, volunteering, taking classes, nature walks and sharing a love of good food. They have been active parishioners at St. Nicholas Parish,
where Barr served on the Parish Council, was active in the Communication Ministry, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Barr's love of family was paramount in his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Jean, his brother, Noel, his son, Tom (Susie) and daughters Leslie (Steve), Jenne (Chuck), and Claire
(John), eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren with one more on the way!
