Daniel Earle Skinner, 64, of Big Bear, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, March 3rd, 2025.

Dan was a loving and devoted father to his three children: Amanda, Amy (Tanner), and Nolan (Rebecca) Skinner. For his love of the wilderness and skill as an outdoorsman, Dan was known affectionately by friends and family as "Mt. Man Dan". His humor, kindness, and joy for life will be deeply missed.

In addition to his children, Dan's memory will be cherished by his identical twin brother, David Skinner; his sister, Carla Jensen Phillips; his former wife and mother of his children, Ginger McElroy Skinner; his sister-in-law, Ellen Skinner; his nieces and nephews, as well as countless others. Dan never met a stranger, and his genuine warmth and friendliness were a comfort to many.

Born August 12th, 1960, in Long Beach, California, Dan was the son of Robert Skinner and Vivian McGee Skinner who both preceded him in death. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Southern California in 1982 and his JD from the Southwestern School of Law in 1985. Dan worked for many years as a Research Attorney for the Orange County Family Court.

As identical twins, Dan and Dave won every twin contest for their age group at the LA county fair between the ages of 5 and 12. Dan and Dave often used their identical appearances for mischief, going to each other's classes on April Fool's Day each year.

More than anything, Dan enjoyed spending time with his children while backpacking, fishing, golfing, running, and traveling. Dan completed numerous marathons throughout his life, including races in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Ireland. When Dan recently moved to Big Bear, he joined the Big Bear Hiking Club. The opportunity to connect with a community of people while connecting with nature became a true source of enjoyment for Dan. He was also a world-renowned banjo player, widely praised by friends and family for his skills as a musician.

The viewing will be held Friday, March 21st, 9:00am-11:00am at McCormick & Son, 1795 Laguna Canyon Rd., Laguna Beach, CA.

A memorial for Dan will be held Sunday, March 23rd at 1:00pm at Shepherd of the Hills Methodist Church, 30605 Avenida de Las Flores, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.

Immediately following the memorial, Dan's Celebration of Life will be hosted at Pub Thirty-Two, 23692 Alicia Pkwy, Mission Viejo, CA
