IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Louis
Terheggen
July 3, 1950 – February 7, 2024
Daniel Terheggen, born July 3, 1950, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Dan was husband to Yvette Poole, son of Louis and Rose Terheggen, brother of Lou Ann Selsky, proud father to Mason (Maggie), Danielle (James), Parker (Nadia), Maxwell (Imogen), Nicole (Ryan), Taylor (Sandra) and Braden, and he was an extremely delighted grandfather to six grandchildren so far.
Dan grew up in Ladera Heights in Los Angeles, California. He attended Loyola High School and the University of Southern California, where he played for the men's volleyball team. During college Dan owned his first laundromat business. By the time he graduated from USC, Dan became a partner with his father, Louis Terheggen, expanding coin-operated laundry services into apartment buildings. Dan also had a hand in real estate, clothing, and recreational businesses. In 2023, he celebrated a 50-year career providing a multitude of valuable services to the multifamily industry. He was well respected as a broadband and multi-dwelling unit expert and was a strong advocate for independent providers in the multifamily broadband industry. Dan served on several advisory boards and was a regularly featured speaker at national conferences.
Dan is known for building a fun and collaborative culture, which included dressing up as Santa Claus every Christmas for both his employees and his family (he even did this on zoom during the pandemic!). Friends and associates will remember him as extremely playful with a wicked sense of humor, and he was beloved by all who worked with him. He was an impactful leader who served as a teacher and mentor to several people throughout his career.
Dan was not one to shy away from celebrations, and he always threw the best annual Dan Terheggen birthday bash that he often shared with his daughter, Nicole, complete with a competitive pool volleyball tournament and awards, inflatable sumo suits, and fast car rides. He was also an advocate of serious fun in Big Bear every summer, throwing his kids, nieces and nephews off of the banana boat float and Sea-Doo. In the winter he led the charge with skiing, snowboarding, sitting in the jacuzzi, and going out for homemade fudge and ice cream.
As the busy dad of a large family, Dan was still able to find time to coach all his children in sports activities and participate in school functions. He also had a strong sense of adventure and wanderlust, which led him to explore many parts of the world with his wife, Yvette, and his family. In the last few years, Dan loved flying to different parts of the country or Europe to see his children, and especially relished in spending time with his darling grandchildren.
If he believed he could do it, Dan would always figure out a way to achieve it. And for that, he is our inspiration and our hero.
In memory of my Dan and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the GoFundMe page benefitting "Men for Others" at the Loyola High School. This organization is what Dan Terheggen was all about.
