Obituary

David Lee Cronan was born in Glendale, Ca. May 13, 1951.  He was the son of Marceline Lamoreaux and John Cronan. The youngest of five children, David enjoyed playing in the neighborhood, making forts with his friends and doing projects with his brothers in the garage.  He also loved spending time with his cousin Barry and traveling with him and his family on very fun vacations.  The two of them would eventually attend Chico State together.  That is when David walked into a greenhouse on campus and fell in love with that experience. He declared horticulture as his major and never looked back.  He also fell in love with a petite soft spoken young lady named Ilona Beth Aranguren.  She knew right away that this was the guy for her, when a gift of a peacock feather on their first cold rainy-day meeting would seal the deal.  His first job was in Salinas, Ca. for a prominent chrysanthemum grower.  Shortly after their move, they had a beautiful little girl named Leann Marie.  She would be the apple of her daddy's eyes.  He adored her.  From there, they packed up and moved to Southern California to Cardiff by the Sea.  David flourished in revamping a foliage company.  Then with a small savings, they returned with his family and dog Sasha back to Chico to start a nursey.  With the help of his father-in-law Angelo, who had caught the vision of Davids dream, Chico Propagators and The Plant Barn was established.  With the help of his wife, daughter and friends, a talented manager Steve and great employees, the nursery became a destination for many in the area.  Their famous poinsettia crop was known throughout the state and every year they quickly sold out of product.  David was an accomplished guitarist, an avid golfer, a church softball manager and led children's church worship for 26 years at the local Calvary Chapel.  He taught classes at Butte College and helped instruct on a greenhouse installation on campus.  With his great wit, he could always make someone laugh, and with his generosity, he was quick to give someone a job who needed a little help.  He loved his work more than anything and was always so dedicated to do his very best at it.  But he always took time to take his family on summer vacations to Almanor and later to their little home on Lake Shastina where he enjoyed time out away from the nursery and all the responsibilities.  He leaves behind his loving wife, Ilona, celebrating 50 years of marriage in July, his adoring daughter Leann, his beautiful granddaughters, Shayna, Alyssa and Breanna and his son-in-law, Dustin.  He will miss his two sisters Shirley Seal and Mary Parnell and his brothers, John Cronan and Rick Cronan and their spouses. He will take the spirit of his adored cousin Barry Willis and his wife Margaret with him.  David also leaves behind his kind brother-in-law Bob Aranguren and wife Christina along with many loving nieces and nephews.  David finished the race set before him with dignity.  Graciously enduring the 15 year presence of frontotemporal dementia and so peacefully went to be with his Lord and Maker, whom he loved so much.  He passed from complications of pneumonia on June 26, at 6:00 am.  He will be deeply and profoundly missed by all those who loved him.
