David Thomas was born on February 14, 1922 and left this world on November 17, 2015 at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Peggy (Margaret McClung) Thomas, his three children: David Thomas, Evan Thomas and Katharine Egan; his grandchildren: Kenneth Washer, Matthew Thomas, Amy Sarkesian, Demian Thomas, Sarah Villanueva, Hanna Thomas, Lille Thomas, Melissa Egan, James Egan and Patrick Egan; and ten great grandchildren.
David was born in Los Angeles, California, to David and Polly Thomas. In 1943 he married his wife Peggy in Cambridge, MA. It was a wonderful union for 72 years.
David grew up in Hawthorne, CA, and later lived in Arcadia and Aliso Viejo. He graduated from Occidental College in 1943. He served as a lieutenant in the Naval Supply Corps during World War II, deployed for two years in the South Pacific. After the war he attended Harvard Law School, followed by over twenty years as a partner in the law firm of Hanna & Morton in Los Angeles. One long career was followed by another as a California Superior Court judge, where he served with distinction on the bench for eighteen years, retiring in 1988.
He served on several boards of directors, including the Keck Foundation, Methodist Hospital, and Childrens Hospital Los Angeles.
David was the epitome of wisdom and integrity. He never lost his love of learning or his wonderful sense of humor. He was a sports fan, especially of baseball. He played in his younger years, and coached too. He loved history and travel, and was a voracious reader of fiction and nonfiction alike. Conversations with David were lively and enlightening.
At age 88 David took up painting and became quite good. His art will adorn many walls for years to come.
He was devoted to his family, and his family to him. He is sorely missed.
The memorial service will be Nov 29th at St George's Episcopal Church in Laguna Hills.
