Obituary

Dorothy is 1 of 10 children born to Elizabeth and George Schissler, German immigrants, to Colorado. Dorothy is survived by her brothers Rueben and William, her sister Louise, her son David, daughter-in-law Sheila, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Dorothy grew up on a farm in Colorado so she learned at a young age how to work. Her dad passed away at a young age which left her mother and siblings to run the farm. In 19 Dorothy married Benjamin Martin and soon after packed up and moved to California settling in Santa Ana. They resided in Santa Ana until 1969 when they moved to El Toro (now Lake Forest) until their passing.

Dorothy had a need to keep busy. She was very active in her church volunteering to help run the Lutheran Thrift Store in Orange. This really suited her since she liked to collect things, she may have been their best customer. Dorothy loved the outdoors and could be seen daily working in her yard. Her biggest love though was bowling. Dorothy was on several bowling teams and was quite good earning several recognitions which were featured in the local newspaper. Dorothy bowled up until she was 82 years old. What was special about Dorothy was that in her 30's she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, a very crippling joint decease. Dorothy's hands were very deformed from this crippling decease, had to have two hip and an elbow replacement yet she never let it slow her down. In order for her to hold a bowling ball she had to have her bowling ball drilled to match her deformed fingers.

Dorothy was well loved by her friends and family and will be dearly missed.
