Douglas "Doug" Goforth born April 6, 1939 passed away peacefully October 2, 2014 at the age of 75 due to complications of Parkinson's Disease. Doug was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Freda Goforth. He is survived by his children Daniel C. Goforth and his husband Danny E. Covington, Kellie L. Goforth, and Douglas W. Goforth Jr. of Orange County, California. There are two grandchildren, Christopher and Jillian Nguyen. Doug is survived by two siblings, brother, Charles Goforth and his wife Teddi of Orange Co. California, and brother Richard Goforth and his wife Sue Goforth of Georgia. Also, survived by his very good friend and ex-wife of 27 years, Kiki Goforth.
Doug was a loving, hardworking, successful businessman and he relocated all over the country; living in California, Ohio, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. So it isn't surprising that he enjoyed traveling, visiting almost every State in the Union as well as Canada, Bermuda, Mexico, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Japan, Hong King, South Korea, Egypt and spoke very fondly of the several times he visited Prague, and the Czech Republic. Even though He retired at a young age he continued to keep very busy in entrepreneurial ventures.
He was an intellectual man who enjoyed lively debate and would help anyone with guidance, advice or a loan in an emergency. He was frequently there for so many people when they were struggling with finances and those who knew him well, understood him to be generous. He was very well versed in politics and knew the issues from both sides and considered himself a Democrat.
As hobbies go, Doug enjoyed golf and was able to play at some of the country's most prestigious courses. He read daily, enjoying everything; fiction, non-fiction and publications. Some particular quotes from his favorite author, John Updike, will help one capture his humorous essence:- "Most of American life consists of driving somewhere and then returning home, wondering why the hell you went." - "Americans have been conditioned to respect newness, whatever it costs them." - "Golf appeals to the idiot in us and the child. Just how childlike golf players become is proven by their frequent inability to count past five."
The three words that sum up his life: WITTY, INTELLECTUAL, GENEROUS!
