Douglas Scott Shaner, a man of unwavering kindness and steadfast dedication, passed away suddenly on May 2, 2026, in Mission Viejo, California. Born on January 24, 1959, in Monrovia, California, Doug’s life was a testament to integrity, love, and the pursuit of meaningful connections.
Doug devoted four decades to his career as a Financial Advisor, where his passion for his work was matched only by the profound respect and care he held for his clients. Beyond his professional achievements, Doug was a man who lived fully, embracing the simple joys and deeper bonds that defined his journey.
He cherished the companionship of lifelong friends and treasured moments shared over a good cigar or a classic Harvey Wallbanger. Photography was a beloved pastime, especially capturing the smiles and adventures of his grandchildren, which brought him immense joy. In his younger years, Doug’s adventurous spirit led him on countless hikes and backpacking trips, experiences that shaped his love for the outdoors and adventure. Music was a constant source of comfort for him, and he enjoyed it at full volume, delighting in all genres with a special enthusiasm.
One of Doug’s most heartfelt passions was writing screenplays with his dear friend and writing partner, Carylon. Together, they spent countless hours crafting stories, editing, and nurturing a creative partnership that spanned decades. This craft was among Doug’s proudest accomplishments, reflecting both his imagination and his devotion to collaboration.
Doug was, above all, a good man who lived by doing what was right. His family and friends knew him as someone who was always present when needed, offering support and kindness without hesitation. His love for his family was profound and unwavering.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Kendra Shaner, who stood by him until his last moments; his daughter Whitney Bonacorsi and her spouse Robert Bonacorsi; his stepdaughter Kailee Starr; and his cherished grandchildren Chase, Colton, Harlow, Ryder, and Liberty. He also leaves behind his brother Tim Shaner, along with Tim’s wife Hollis and their children, as well as many cousins and their spouses.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother Bonnie Shaner, his father Phillip Shaner, his brothers David and Paul Shaner, and his sister Carol Schafer.
A Celebration of Life for Douglas Scott Shaner will be held on June 11 at 11:00am at St. Andrew's by the Sea Methodist Chruch in San Clemente. Family members kindly ask those wishing to attend to contact them for further details.
Doug’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and lasting friendships. His presence enriched the lives of everyone who knew him, and though he has left this world, his memory will continue to inspire those who were lucky enough to call him family and friend.
