Obituary

Duc Si Luc, born to Man Si Luc and Nhon Thi To, on February 12, 1940 in Vung Tau, Vietnam, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2020 at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Laguna Hills. Duc met the love of his life, Cuc Kim Hong, at a young age and later married her on May 15, 1968 in Saigon, Vietnam. They had their daughter, Kim-Oanh, in 1969.
Duc and his family fled as refugees to the United States in 1975, after the fall of Saigon, Vietnam. They had their son, Dzung in 1976. Duc worked at several local businesses and attended Cal State San Bernardino where he earned a B.A. in business administration. Duc and Cuc decided to open their own business, a French bakery in San Bernardino in 1982. Duc relocated to San Juan Capistrano and opened Croissant French Bakery in San Clemente for 23 years. The family always remembered having an endless supply of fresh French bread and croissants while the bakery was opened until his retirement in 2006.
Duc was proud of being in the South Vietnamese Army of the Republic of Vietnam, ARVN ranger where he served as a military officer/Major. He worked as the attache to the United States, as an intelligence officer and translator. He prides himself as being a graduate of Truong Vo Bi Quoc Gia Dalat – Khoa 16, as he has been in contact with his former classmates and military service members throughout the years.
Duc loved to read, sing, fish, and hunt. He enjoyed reading history books and literature in multiple languages. He also loved to sing all types of music: religious Latin hymns, traditional Vietnamese love songs, pop American and French songs. He was a passionate storyteller, often remembered as one who could retell a story with the same fervor each time. Duc loved to tell jokes, putting a smile on everyone's face wherever he went, from family events to the local grocery store.Fluent in French, Vietnamese, English and Spanish, Duc could easily relate with others from different cultural backgrounds. He is survived by his wife, Cuc Kim Hong, children, Kim Oanh Luc-Nguyen and Dzung Si Luc,grandchildren, Jenna Luc, Kaylee Luc, Trevan Nguyen and Tianne Nguyen.
Private service held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Costa Mesa, CA and private burial held at Ascension Cemetery in Lake Forest, CA on April 24, 2020.
