Obituary

E. Emil Welden, passed away peacefully on October 13th, 2023.  In Laguna Niguel, California.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 8, 1925 to Ned and Goldie Welkovitz. His parents came here in 1924 from Budapest, Hungary. He was proceeded in death by his older sister Pearl and his younger brother Earl.  He graduated in 1943 from Crane Technical High School.  After high school he joined the United States Navy in August of 1943.  He remained in the Navy for over 25 years. While in the Navy he had a pen pal that he corresponded with, named Rosalind Pactovis of Boston, Massachusetts. They fell in love and married on June 1, 1947.  While living in Massachusetts they had three children, Karen (deceased March, 2023), Daniel & Mari. The family then moved to Orange, California in July of 1963 and Joni was born the following year.

Emil was a top notch salesmen in the Automovtive  Aftermarket  Parts business for more than 30 years. Most of his career was spent selling parts for Air Cooled Volkswagens.   The people in the industry knew him as "Mr. Bug".

Rosalind passed away in October of 1974.  In March 1975 Emil married Jane Pilcher.  She had a daughter named Janet. Emil and Jane enjoyed many years of traveling and square dancing. Emil did wood working and scroll saw for many years and enjoyed giving it as gifts. Jane passed away in January of 2000.  After her death Emil still loved square dancing. He devoted his time to raise money for cancer research and care.  He sold pink ribbons for Susan G. Komen. This brought him so much pride and joy. Emil is survived by 13 Grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren. Some of the older Grandchilden called him Papa & many of the younger ones just called him Grandpa. It didn't matter to him he loved bragging about how many grandchildren he had and he loved all of them.

Emil was a character! Anyone who knew him knew that he loved to joke around, disguise his voice and pretend to be someone else. He loved calling people he knew over the phone, disguising his voice and asking them for donations to his made up charity. This was one silly thing that he thought was so funny!

Our Dad/Grandfather lived his life to the fullest. He had so much energy no one ever believed his age. Emil was a people person. He got some much joy meeting people and having long conversations. He will always be remembered for his humor and kindness. Rest in Peace….

In lieu of sending flowers, please donate to Emil's favorite charity, Susan G. Komen Cancer Research and Care.
