Obituary

Edward W. Addy of Lake Forest, CA, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024 to be with the Lord and his late-wife of 63 years Mary Addy. He was 90 years of age and leaves behind four children, Eileen Addy, Gerald Addy (and wife Donna), Susan Addy (and partner Tracy), and Tom Addy (and wife Amanda), as well as six grandchildren, one great-grandson, and two great-granddaughters. He also leaves behind his brother Gary Addy and sister Lola Zybura and is predeceased by his sister Janice.

Edward, known to most as Ed, and to those close to him as "Daddy Addy", was born in Chicago, IL on September 2, 1933. He married Mary on Sep 20, 1958. He grew up in the Eastern US and lived in several states, including NY, MI, PA, and NJ. He and his family moved from New Jersey to California in 1970. He and Mary raised their children in northern and southern California, as well as the California central coast.

Ed served in the US Army and then the Reserves from 1954 to 1962 and often spoke of his time while based in Germany as well as his travels to France, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain and Austria. After being honorably discharged, he became a businessman in the insurance industry and in later years owned his own company until he retired.

Everyone knew Ed as a "larger than life" great father/family man and friend. He was known for entertaining friends and family by telling stories and jokes and singing some of his favorite songs from the likes of Frank Sinatra, Frankie Vallie, Tony Bennett, and more. However, one of his favorite songs to sing (in tribute to his English and wife's Irish heritage) was "Oh Danny Boy".

His family says he will be sorely missed but forever be in our hearts.

Ed and his wife Mary will be buried together at the VA's Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.

In his memory, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
