Edward Phillip Berryman passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in his home in Laguna Niguel at age 99. Born in Rosario, Sinaloa, Mexico in January 1915, Edward lost his father when he was a few months old. In 1917 his mother took him to Los Angeles where he grew up and attended Manual Arts High School.
Edward married Katherine Butterfield on September 11, 1937 and they were married for 63 years until Katherine passed away in 2000. They were proud parents of seven children, Phillip, Dennis, Alan, Claudia, Jean, Tom and Bob. Edward also had fourteen grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Edward became a master woodworker, and owned and operated Reliable Pattern Works in Downey for several decades, making wood and metal patterns for local industries primarily in aerospace. They raised their family in Hollydale and Covina, before moving to Laguna Niguel in 1997 to be close to their children.
After his retirement Edward and Katherine frequently played golf and travelled to Hawaii, Hong Kong, Italy, Ireland, Chile, Argentina and other destinations.
After Katherine passed away, Edward returned to woodworking, always a passion for him. He created beautiful handcrafted furniture for his home and family. He found inspiration in the work of Sam Maloof and George Nakashima.
He had a life well lived and he was loved by many.
