Edward Paul Ponthier died on March 29, 2021 at 93. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Evariste and Pearl Ponthier, his sister, Rena and brother, Nelson.
He is survived by his adored sister, Alla Mae Thompson, his ex-wife, Brenda Poye Ponthier, children, Kevin and wife Sarah (Sally), Chuck and wife, Nancy, Bonnie and husband, Leonardo, and grandchildren, Matthew and Sierra Ponthier, Ella and Olivia Ponthier and Giulia and Sebastiano Curcuruto.
Ed was born in Hessmer, Louisiana on February 14, 1928, the youngest of 4
siblings. His family moved to Houston in 1929. Ed graduated from St. Thomas High School where he played on the football, ice hockey and baseball teams. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. He worked in sales, production and management for various companies until his retirement in 1993. He relocated to Southern California to be with his sons and their families. He was a parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA and a follower of St. Anthony of Padua. Since 2017, he lived with Brenda who dedicated herself
to his care.
Ed lived in anticipation of visits and reunions with family and friends around a hearty meal, loved barbequing and sports in general but baseball was his lifelong passion. His sincerity in telling you how much you were appreciated and loved was a trademark and he always had a witty one-liner joke either ready to share or invented on the spot that would brighten the moment. Texas was always home to him and Padua, Italy his second, where he was a welcomed member of the Curcuruto family.
Ed was not only a loving and generous father and grandfather, but also a caring and appreciative brother, a fun loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and was tightly bound to all his in-laws and friends all of whom were his motivation in life. Ed was a man of honor and integrity who was loyal and sincere and blessed to have been loved by so many.
Committal will take place in Houston, Texas at a date to be determined.
His family requests that any donations or gifts be sent either to the Cystic fibrosis foundation https://www.cff.org/Give-Today/ in loving memory of his niece, Susan Ponthier or to St. Thomas High School Memorial Gifts in Houston, Texas
