Obituary

Ernest Lynn Caswell passed away peacefully at his home in Laguna Niguel on Friday, February 10, 2023 at the age of 77 years old. Always known to his family and friends as Lynn, he was born to Ernest and Shirley Caswell in Colby, Kansas, on March 23, 1945. Along with his sister Sandra, Lynn was raised in the First Christian Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was a tremendous athlete who, after graduating from College High School in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, went on to play football and baseball, on scholarship, at the University of Arkansas. There, he met his former wife, Brenda, with whom he would later have two children, Bill and Kim.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1967 and began a career in banking and finance. He also earned advanced degrees and certifications from a variety of renowned institutions including the University of Virginia's Graduate School of Retail Banking and the Graduate School of Consumer Banking, The Wharton School's Financial Management Program, the Commercial Lending Division of the ABA at the University of Oklahoma, and the Financial Management Program at Stanford University.  A leading advocate for community banking throughout his career, he led successful banks in Oklahoma, Texas, Nevada, and California before founding financial holding companies in the United States and Zurich, Switzerland.

Lynn served as the president of the American Bankers Association, California and was an elected Board Director of the Federal Reserve Bank District 12 in San Francisco for nine years, serving an unprecedented 3 terms. Considered an expert in finance and banking, he was well esteemed throughout his career and served as an advisor to the Federal Reserve in Washington D.C., advising both House and Senate committees on banking and economic regulation.

Lynn loved sports, especially his beloved Razorbacks, and was an avid skier. He served on the Board of Directors for the South Coast Medical Center and the South Coast YMCA. He was involved in many other organizations, including Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, Les Amis D'Escoffier, Knights of Columbus, and the Noble Vikings Charities.

Lynn is survived by his son Bill Caswell of Windemere, FL; his daughter Kim Miller (and Allan) of Wrightwood, CA; his grandchildren Kelsey, Audrey, Madison, Morgan, Emma and Peter; his sister Sandra Ward of Lawton, OK; his niece Heidi Ramos (Joel and Ava); his nephew Brett Ward (Nancy and Drew); his aunt Veneta Fusco and many beloved cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Shirley Caswell, his brother-in-law Dennis Ward, and his daughter-in-law Cheryl Wailes-Caswell, along with many cherished aunts, uncles and cousins. Services will be announced at a future date. To all those who loved Lynn and were a part of his life, the family would like to extend our deepest thank you for all you meant to him.
