Eugene "Gene" F. Boyle, born December 8, 1931, in Cambridge, MA, passed peacefully on Saturday morning, July 22, 2023, in Lake Forrest, CA. Born to James J. and Mary Boyle, an only child with strong familial relationships with his mother's side of the family, he entered the seminary and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1958. Gene left the priesthood in 1975; remained in the Faith, married his loving wife, Donna Flaherty, and later had their only son, Jimmy.

Gene attained his master's in Guidance Counseling from Boston College and worked at Natick High School as a Special Needs guidance counselor focusing on drop-out prevention until his retirement in 1995. After retirement, Gene moved to Taunton and Somerset, MA, and later relocated to California in 2016 with his wife, Donna, to be closer to his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild.

Gene was an avid Boston Sports fan, especially a fan of the Red Sox and huge Tom Brady fan and was fortunate to experience a favorable Boston championship runs in the 2000s. Gene was an avid skier and shared his love of the sport with his son, Jimmy where the family spent much winter and summer time in the mountains, particularly in Bridgton Maine. Gene also loved the Caribbean and spending time at the beach and around the water. He also was a great chef and known for making exceptional spaghetti sauce. In his last years, Gene was able to explore California wine country, visit the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and make a trip to his ancestral homeland of the Republic of Ireland.

Gene was an advocate for social justice and giving a voice to the underserved. He was dedicated to his Faith and loved to engage in political discourse. He was a gentle, warm, and inviting person and leaves a lasting impression on many individuals that came into his life.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, his son Jim, Daughter-in-law Amber, grandchildren, Kalia (9) and Peter (2).

Funeral Mass will be held at St Patrick's Church, 306 South St, Somerset, MA 02726 on Saturday, August 26, 2023, @10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery and followed by a reception at Argos Pizza Bar and Grill, 2756 County St., Somerset MA 02726.
