Frances Williams Schmidt, age 92, passed away January 10, 2015 in Laguna Woods, California, where she resided for the past 20 years with her cherished companion, Princess, her Siamese cat. Frances was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Fran loved being with family, traveling, playing the slot machines, participating in Toastmasters and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She touched many lives with her endless generosity and selflessness. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life.
Fran was born May 25,1922 in Florence, Colorado. At a very young age, Fran was orphaned. She moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, where she was raised by her grandparents and later by her Aunt Josephine and Uncle Michael. It was while in Hawaii that she met her future husband, a tall, handsome U. S. Navy man, Stanley Schmidt, who she married on April 24, 1942. They were together on December 7, 1941 when the bombing started at Pearl Harbor. Over the 46 years they were married, Fran and Stan lived in several places around the world, including Hawaii, New York, Panama, Florida, and California. They had 9 children together, six boys and three girls. Fran served her country both as a member of the Marines and as a civilian contractor for the Air Force and Navy.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Stan, her sons Wray, Randy, and Gary and by her brother John Williams. She was a member of Saint Nicholas' Parish in Laguna Woods, California. Fran is survived by her sons Michael, Ric and Bill and by her daughters Kathy, Deb and Jeanne. She also has 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
