BONDI Jr., Frank Louis, born August 16th 1935 passed away July 9th, 2014 at the age of 78. He died at home of a sudden heart attack, working in the back yard. Frank goes to join his beloved son, Frank Louis Bondi III, who passed 13 years ago. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, son, Mark, sister, Mary Ellyn, brother-in-law, Will, and four blessed grandchildren.
Frank was born in Chicago, IL, the second of two children of Frank and Ellyn Bondi Sr. Growing up Frank attended Loyola Academy, where he met many of his lifelong friends and graduated high school in 1953. After graduation Frank attended Northwestern University, where he worked his way through school with many a job, including as a golf caddy, and obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1957. He then served two active duty years followed by a couple of reservist years in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1963.
He married Barbara Ann Hegan on November 4th, 1961, and the happy couple began their life together in Chicago, then moved to Park Ridge and Naperville, IL, and then finally settled in Irvine, CA in 1976, where they raised their two sons. Frank successfully worked in sales for many years prior to launching his own office furniture business in 1989. He owned this successful business until his retirement in 2007. Barbara was the homemaker raising her two sons, and so much more. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degrees as well as her teaching credential and worked part-time for many years and then full-time as a middle school teacher prior to her retirement.
Frank was a skilled golfer, avid fisherman, and along with his wife shared a passion for horse racing. Frank was a dedicated little league coach of his sons' baseball teams for many years. Later in their lives, Frank and Barbara loved taking their sons and grandchildren on a summer trip each year, and some of the family's fondest memories of Frank remain etched in those wonderful family trips.
Like the city of Chicago in which he was born, Frank was his family's "city of the big shoulders." He bore the weight of the family on his sturdy shoulders with grace, ease and dignity. He was kindest of men, a devoted husband, and most doting and loving father a grateful son could ever hope for. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him; may he rest in peace.
Frank's funeral mass will be held July 12th, 2014 at St. Thomas More Church in Irvine, CA, and he will be interred at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, Orange, CA, immediately following the mass.
