Celebrating the beautiful life of Frank James Fisk
Known to many as Jim, and to a special few as "Poppi"
With his beloved wife Helen, aka "The Most Wonderful Woman in the World," by his side, Jim entered the presence of his Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at his home in Laguna Woods, California.
He was 91 years old, but still a child at heart. He & Helen were partners, soul mates and best friends for 70 years. He will also be dearly missed by his two sons, Tom and Mike, and their wives Shirley and Janet (respectively), as well as his five grandchildren Holli, Angela, Heather, Zsaqlene and Kyler, and grandchildren-in-law Phil and Nick.
Born in London, Ontario, Canada, Jim proudly served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve during World War II. In 1944, Jim asked Helen to jitterbug with him at a dance at the naval base in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the rest is history. Ballroom dancing continued to be a large part of their romance for decades to come. Big band music also remained Jim's favorite and was a comfort to him in his last hours.
In 1957, Jim, Helen and young sons Tom and Mike immigrated to the U.S. - specifically sunny Southern California. Former neighbors in Canada were green with envy when they heard tales of the "winter weather" in Tustin.
His outgoing demeanor and servant's heart prompted Jim to serve cheerfully as an elder, a deacon and a greeter in his various church homes over the years, with wife Helen always by his side.
His entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic gave him success as a small business owner, but his true pride and joy was his family.
Jim was also a true connoisseur of cornball humor and enjoyed making people laugh (or groan). His favorite TV show was "I Love Lucy," and not unlike "Ricky Ricardo," he became an entertainer in his own right during karaoke time at Age Well Senior Services in recent years.
In his later years, as his memory began to fail, the one thing he never forgot was his overwhelming love for his "chicky-poo" Helen and the rest of his immediate family. Even when he could remember nothing else, he remembered to give thanks for all of God's blessings in his life, exclaiming "How good can it get?!"
His loving family now pictures him trying out his jokes on a whole new audience in heaven and singing with the angels, praising his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations."
Psalm 100
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 10am at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Laguna Woods (address below). Reception to follow.
