George James Davis, born January 17th, 1941, in Liverpool, England, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020 in his Laguna Beach home.George was known as "Georgie" to his family and friends.Born to Jim and Agnes, he has two siblings - Lin Brereton and Tommy Davis ("Our Kid").After a short courtship, George married Doris Ann Hines in Liverpool, England in 1966 and had three children:Colette, Jason, and Carl.George and Doris eventually divorced and he moved to Arlington, Texas in 1972, to reunite and marry his childhood sweetheart, Margaret Moore.
George had an illustrious past.He served in the Merchant Navy for the famous Cunard Line and was also stationed in Cyprus with the British Army.He was a gifted singer and musician.George was the lead singer and guitarist in a band during the '60s called "The Saxons", who happened to play in the same venues in both Liverpool and Hamburg, as "The Beatles".George was also an outstanding athlete who practiced gymnastics and excelled in martial arts.He was a black belt in Taekwondo and Shotokan and was an instructor for over three decades.In the 70s, he placed 3rd in the Japanese Karate Association World Championships in Tokyo and defeated Chuck Norris' kickboxing team.In 2019, he was presented with an honorary award as an 8th degree "Grandmaster" black belt.
George was an astute businessman.After a successful career in the oil and gas industry in Texas, he moved to Laguna Beach, California in 1986 and utilized his business acumen in the investment banking industry.He retired in 2010.
He was very well-received in Laguna Beach.With his Hollywood looks and boyish charm, he was an outstanding individual who always greeted you with a smile.When congregating with friends and family, he was always the life of the party and loved to have a 'sing-song'.He was 'charisma personified' and lit up a room with his presence.A man who loved nature and beauty, one of his favorite local spots to say his morning prayers was Crescent Bay Point Park.
He never met a stranger and will be sadly missed.Laguna Beach and Liverpool weep at the loss of one of its favorite sons.Cheers, Georgie!
