George Gordon Hannah born November 27, 1934 Evanston Illinois, passed peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2020.George was a tall man at 6' 7" and never got tired of people asking, "how tall are you".Born to his parents, George and Pat Hannah, he had one sibling, his brother, Scott Hannah.George married his college sweetheart and they had two children, Steve & Debbie.Barbara died in 2017.
He was a highly regarded high school basketball player in Illinois and received multiple scholarship offers.His dream was to "go west" so he picked the University of Colorado.Through his four years of basketball he had the good fortune to play in the NCAA final four against Bill Russell.
George was a Forman at Kaiser steel in Fontana California before joining the Southern California Gas Company.George worked for the Gas Company as a Tariff Manager until he retired in 1994.The family lived in South Pasadena California for 30 years before George and Barbara moved to Laguna Niguel CA in 1995.Their home had a great backyard and was the focal point of many a family pool party.
He was an avid ocean sailor and was an active member of the Seal Beach and Dana Point Yacht clubs.George and Barbara enjoyed day sailing, weekends on the boat and anchoring for extended stays around Catalina Island and San Diego Harbor.While at Dana Point, he enjoyed his Thursday "beer can" racing and was able to compete until only a few years ago.
A big fan of the LA Lakers and Dodges, George seldom missed watching a game and was famous for grabbing a small portable TV to sit next to his regular TV when both teams were playing.His college football teams were the Colorado Buffaloes and USC Trojans.For college basketball, he would watch any team and truly enjoyed March Madness.
George leaves behind his son and daughter, Steve & Debbie, daughter in Law Jana, four grandchildren, Rachel, Jaclyn, Richie and Jacob, and his twin great grandsons, Koda & Greyson.
George was a strong family leader and will be deeply missed.
