Gerard "Jerry" Schoenfeld was born in Long Beach, California on March 28, 1954 to Bernard and Ursula Schoenfeld.He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio with his siblings, Rita, Agnes and Paul.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts, he joined the Navy, rising to the highest rank of Navy Captain, retiring after 24-year naval career in 2006.
Jerry married his bride Virginia in 1991 who he met in Newport Rhode Island while both were completing Naval Officer trainings respectively. They have two children, Ashley, and Johann.
Settling into and creating a life in San Clemente, California, Jerry dedicated much time to his passion to his painting and various visual arts projects. In 2006, Jerry received the devastating news that he was among thousands of military personnel that had developed Gulf-War connected ALS. His art legacy was passed down to his daughter Ashley and both created many paintings to fund raise for ALS research. Despite physical limitation due to his 15 year illness, Jerry was also involved in charitable, religious, and fraternal, activities.Jerry and his family are parishioner at St. Edwards parish where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry passed away in his home, surrounded by his loved ones on June 19, 2020.He is survived by his wife Virginia, his two children, his siblings as well as his beloved pups, Chifa, Chucky and Thor.
