Obituary

Gloria Marie Laun, born December 26, 1929, in New York City, passed away on November 11, 2020, in Laguna Woods, CA. She had courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis for many years – always maintaining a wonderful outlook on life.

She is the daughter of John Leon Laun and Palma Marie Laun, formerly of Pasadena, CA. Her two brothers, John Leon Laun Jr and Robert John Laun, and her nieces Luan Laun and Kristine Laun Clark are deceased. She is the beloved aunt survived by three nephews, John Leon Laun III, Robert John Laun Jr, and Michael Douglas Laun, and their children and grandchildren.

Gloria attended Sacred Heart Academy and received a BA at Scripps College.

Following college, she joined the Sisters of St Joseph of Orange as Sister John Marie and taught over 20 years at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. She was a cherished teacher and a big fan of their legendarily successful football team. Many of her fellow Sisters and former students had stayed in touch even now.

Gloria left the convent and moved to Sacramento, where she continued in education as a counselor at Foothills High School and was beloved by the students.

Gloria retired and moved back to Orange County, Laguna Woods, in 1990.

Gloria had many interests, including a continuing fascination with football. She was a long-time Raiders fan, probably because their flashy quarterback was Notre Dame alum Daryle Lamonica. But her all-time favorite was another Notre Dame alum, Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana.

Gloria was laid to rest at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY, alongside her parents, grandparents, and two aunts.

Memorial donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Pacific South Coast, 10089 Willow Creek Road, Suite 250, San Diego, CA 92131 would be appreciated.
