Obituary

Harold A. "Hal" Ewing passed away on October 12, 2015 in Laguna Woods, California, from natural causes. He was 95. Hal was born on January 2, 1920 in Fort Lupton, Colorado, the son of Harry and Fern (Curtis) Ewing. Hal and his late sister, Helyn (Jackson), were raised on the family farm.

He attended college in Fort Collins before enlisting in the Navy in 1942 to become a dive-bomber pilot. Hal flew numerous missions in the Pacific and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. During his San Diego flight training, he met Anne Ezard, whom he married in 1944. After the war, the couple moved to Pico Rivera, later living in Whittier and Dana Point. They enjoyed 60 wonderful years together before Anne's death in 2005.

Hal was in the auto insurance business for nearly 30 years. He obtained a civilian pilot's license, and he and Anne took frequent trips with the flying club they belonged to. They also traveled abroad extensively. His thirst for knowledge served him well in retirement. He became a Shakespeare scholar, along with studying history, airplane mechanics and Spanish. He also enjoyed the theater, playing chess and bridge, and volunteering for several local organizations.

Hal is survived by two sons, David (Diana) and Douglas; grandchildren Michael Ewing, Matthew Ewing and Elisabeth Antoine; and great grandchild Eloise Antoine.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, at McCormick & Son Mortuary, 25000 Moulton Parkway, Laguna Hills, California.
