Obituary

Henry K. Lee, husband and father, passed away on June 28, 2022, at his home in Laguna Woods, CA. He was 90.

Henry was born October 9, 1932, in Hebei, China. His father was a general in World War II. He was the third out of seven children.  They moved Taiwan in 1949 and settled in Taichung, Taiwan

Henry was accepted into the Taiwan Naval Academy. His major was navigation and mechanical engineering. After graduating in 1954, he was honored to be sent to the United States to receive a new warship. After a military conflict his warship was destroyed but he survived. He later attended the Taiwan military foreign language school and majored in Spanish.

In the 60s, Henry had a chance to join an organization called Moral Re-Armament (MRA). Their mission was to restore the moral values back to society. Those values were: honesty, purity, unselfishness and love. He traveled through Europe and America to spread those teachings. He met his future wife Shirley at a local MRA event and married May 19, 1963. They had two daughters Amy (who passed away in 2004) and Helen.

Henry was hired by the Taiwanese information bureau. His duty was to host all foreign visitors. He later received a scholarship to come to the United States to advance his studies. He got his master's degree of Oceanography at Oregon State University. While visiting his sister in Tulsa, OK, he had an opportunity to be interviewed by Amoco Oil company. Henry worked for Amoco as a Petroleum Engineer for 30 years, until he retired at the age of 60. Henry simultaneously worked and earned his PhD in engineering at Oklahoma State University.

Henry is survived by his wife Shirley, and daughter Helen. Helen and her husband Derek Urban have a daughter Kelsey and a son Joseph. They currently live in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Every summer they vacation and visit their grandparents here.

Henry found the climate of Southern California to be perfect and moved to Laguna Woods Village in 2004.  During his senior years, he traveled extensively. He traveled with his wife Shirley, their family, old classmates and new friends. During his retirement, he made money through investments in the stock market and real estate.

He was elected as a president of the Chinese American club in 2006. During his 10-year tenure, he not only devoted time to the club, but also made many donations. Because of all his contributions, The Chinese American club voted him as a permanent honorary president of the club.

Henry studied and worked diligently all the time, after gaining success in his career, he never forgot to give back to the society. As the president of the Chinese American club for 10 years, he led the efforts to make friends with other ethnic groups. This is the foundation of harmonious Society.  He always took care of all the Chinese people in this club. We will always remember him bringing moon cakes and rice dumplings to celebrate the Chinese festival every year.  We will dearly miss him!
